Ultrafast control of interlayer coupling(Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships 2021, Activity: EF-PHY, Project 101060427 — UCoCo)
Abstract
This project aims to develop a new scheme for ultrafast direct control of the interlayer coupling, the key for various electronic properties in layered materials, using terahertz (THz) electric fields. With this scheme, we aim to realize ultrafast bandgap modulation in semiconductor layered material and its ultrafast phase transition to metal. The proposed scheme will be applicable to study various layered-material systems including twisted bilayer systems and van der Waals heterostructures. It is also expected to be applied as optoelectronic and all-optical ultrafast switches that are important milestones for the future ultrafast technologies.
